Red Eared Slider Turtles - Tips on Care and Diet

by: Karma Williams

Taking care of Red Eared Turtles takes more than just a container decorated with colorful pebbles and filled with water. These animals have specific housing needs, and require special diets and close monitoring; all this in order to ensure their health and safety, and allow them to live out their maximum lifespans. The following tips about the Red Eared Turtle should help you come to a decision as to whether you are ready to become an owner, or, if you are already one, give you useful advice on how to take better care of your pets.

If your are just in the planning stages of purchasing a red eared turtle, there are a few things you should look out for to make sure that your pet is in perfect condition and not ill before you bring it home. Healthy turtles of this species should be alert, responsive, and bright in appearance. You will know if the turtle is alert and responsive if it pulls its legs back into its shell when you pick it up. Otherwise, Red Eared Slider Turtles that seem to be passive when you do this are most likely to be stressed out or sluggish. They are in great shape and health if they have clear, open, and clean eyes. Their noses should be free from discharge or mucus, which are signs of respiratory sickness.

Red Eared Slider Turtles may appear delicate and cute when they are just hatchlings, and many novice owners may assume that small, plastic containers or tanks would make adequate housing for them. This theory is a mistake; as the turtles grow into their adult size, they will reach up to twelve inches in length. You must, therefore, prepare a suitably sized dwelling place, ideally a large tank or pond. A red eared turtle that has received the right kind of care and monitoring can live for forty years.

One should always remember that it is never wise to try to return a turtle to the wild when it becomes an adult, because it will not be equipped with the skills necessary for self-preservation and survival, especially if it had been kept captive most of its life.

A red eared turtle can excrete a lot of waste material, and you must keep its housing clean, by placing a good filter into its tank, and by feeding it in a separate tank or container.

Red eared slider turtles are omnivorous, although as young turtles, they show a preference for small animals, such as earthworms, shrimp, mealworms, crickets, and krill. These may have to be cut into smaller portions when fed to the hatchlings. If your pet is already an adult, you may offer it larger prey, such as tadpoles. As the turtles mature, you should shift to vegetables for the majority of their diet; for example, collard, dandelion greens, and green beans.

You can determine the sex of your turtles only when they have become mature. You should allot a nesting area on which the females can lay their eggs. Be sure that this area, and the entire place in which the turtles dwell, are escape-proof and free from predators.

These facts about Red Eared Slider Turtles should serve as sound and helpful advice on how to take care of your turtle pets.

Dieting Groceries: A Little Diet Advice and Must Have Items For Diet

The Top 5 Tips to Guaranteed Weight Loss!

by: Patrick Shelley

Truly effective weight loss doesn't have to be a struggle. In fact it can be rather easy when you know it's secrets.

1st why would you want to take tips from a fitness & bodybuilding coach? Well, if you see a Body Builder or Miss fitness finalist on the stage are they fat? Of course not, they are some of the leanest people on the planet! So their coach, the guy who got them into that kind of shape might just be the person to get some weight loss tips from.

Now before we begin with the top 5 tips let's dispel one common misunderstanding. Many people believe they can't use my tips and tactics because they don't want to look like one of those people. They just want to look fit and trim.

That would be like saying you're a Golf enthusiast but you wouldn't want to take free Golf tips from Tiger Woods because you have no desire to play in the PGA. Trust me you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You will never look like a professional Body Builder without years of unrelenting dedication, lot's of steroids and way too many protein shakes. To be your best always learn from the best. Now after getting that off my chest, without further adieu here are the Top 5 weight loss Tips as promised.

1. Never go on a diet! When you hear a body builder of fitness competitor say " I'm on my diet" they're not using the word the same way you are. The ones who are successful at their sport eat very clean year round. They almost never eat any junk at all. Then when they are "on their diet" they make a few simple weight loss adjustments and the fat begins to melt off. You see, a diet is something you go "on" and get "off" of. This won't create long term success and it usually only leads to failure. Instead, focus on eating clean all year long. Then use only little tiny, painless adjustments to keep making progress month by month.

2. Yes at the close of the 1st tip I said "month by month". And guess what, I meant every word. Chances are you didn't put on the extra weight you now want to lose in 30 days or less, am I right? So why would you expect that you could safely take it off in just 30 days despite what all diet pill pushers say. Think of it this way, if it took you 5 or 10 years to put it on, it may take 6 months or a year to safely take it off again.

3. You must eat more not less. The meaning of this is that you must consume more volume, but fewer calories overall. The simplest way to do this is each time you eat make 1/2 of your meal vegetables. So, if you look at your plate 50% are vegetables. 30% of what you see is a high quality protein source such as chicken, fish or beef. Then the remaining 20% is complex carbohydrates like brown rice or yams not pasta and bread.

4. You need to eat all the time. This is to say that you need to eat a minimum of 5 or 6 small meals per day. This will help satisfy your hunger, control insulin and supply your body with a constant steady flow of nutrients.

5. Follow the hydration equation. You absolutely need to drink enough water to stay properly hydrated and flush out all the bad toxins you need to get rid of each day. Personally I drink a gallon a day. But the one easy rule is; your body just told you that your dehydrated if and when you ever get thirsty. The trick is to continually sip water all day and never actually become thirsty.

One extra bonus tip. If you happen to get a flat tire while heading down the highway, please don't get out of the car and just shoot the other 3 tires. In other words, if you're doing really well with your weight loss plan and have a piece of cake at a birthday party don't throw up your hands and say the heck with it and go eat 2 pints of ice cream. Admit you splurged, even enjoy the fact that you splurged, but for Heaven's sake get back in the car and get back on the road to success.

Pure O OCD - The Best OCD Advice I Have Ever Seen

by: Derek Soto

Pure o OCD is something that drives most people insane. I'm not talking about clinically insane, rather as an expression to describe how unpleasant it is to suffer from this condition. I would like to make it very clear that this is not a disease or anything like that. No matter what you have heard, I have been working with people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for years and I can tell you that I have seen people who suffered major with it not suffer anymore. I have seen people become OCD free and I have seen how this has dramatically changed their lives for the better!

When I talk about pure o OCD I am talking about the rituals that people do in their heads such as count things or think repetitive thoughts. It's tough to deal with this when you really have no clue the inner workings of OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is like a child and if you pay attention to it, it will just want more of your attention. On the other hand, if you ignore it, then it will flee from you. Just like the Bible says, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Although I have to say that getting rid of OCD is slightly harder than just "ignoring" it. You cannot just ignore it until you know how to change the underlying thought process.

If you continue using the same faulty equipment, you will continue to get the same faulty result. When it comes to pure o ocd I can assure you that if you keep using the same paradigm shift that you have, you will be in the same rut. Now what do I mean by paradigm shift? What I mean is that your current set of beliefs and interpretations of the information around you. You need to learn how to interpret things differently before you can ever expect a "natural" change to happen in your life. I'll let you in on a little secret: Most OCD programs just tell you to depend on willpower but we both know that willpower is bull. That is why most diet programs also fail, because they lean on something that itself is weak.

No, instead what you want to do is lean on changing your understand of the world around you and your brain will automatically change the way it interprets things. Pure o ocd will not be able to stand a chance! For example: If you are throwing a ball a certain way and you can't seem to control it, then you may interpret ball throwing as tough. If however, you learn some techniques on how to throw the ball more powerfully, all of a sudden you may find that what you once found hard is actually very easy! Now your paradigm or state of mind has shifted! Now you are ready to do the task! See, in your current state of mind, not giving into rituals is just too hard because you are doing it wrong and you don't know how to do it the right way. You know that you need to learn this skill, but you also know that you need to learn how to do it the right way! I have some great information on OCD below that will help you a lot, enjoy!

Your Pets Diet

by: Rupert Bowling

Appetite is largely governed by energy intake and gut fill but can be significantly affected by individual animal tendencies and how tasty the food being offered is. Each animal has a maintenance requirement which is the energy necessary for all the resting bodily functions such as the beating of a heart and the constant action of nerve and muscle fibres. Above this is the requirement for voluntary activity such as running and playing. Every animal has its own rate and efficiency of use for these activities which makes it impossible to create a reliable formula for food requirement. Dogs (and cats to a lesser extent) will eat excessively simply because the food tastes good, a phenomena which gave rise to pet food advertising with statements like "eight out of ten cats prefer it" and the counter advertisement by hills science diet which states below a large photograph of sweets and ice cream that "eight out of ten children may prefer it".

Types of food vary enormously but can be broken down into those which which are 'complete', or those which form only a part of a diet such as 'mixer' biscuits. Complete feeds provide all the necessary nutrients discussed below and do not require any additional food provision. Food may also be dry or moist. Traditional feeding was typically based on a canned moist food with mixer biscuits. Many of the earlier dry feeds were poorly balanced and particularly in cats, predisposed them to kidney failure and other problems.

Dry foods are now much improved and many reputable manufacturers provide dry or moist equivalents of the same food brand, the only difference being the moisture content. It is always very important when giving a dry diet to provide adequate fresh water as the requirement is not present in feed. Cystitis can be a problem even in the best balanced dry food if water intake is inadequate.

Dry or crunchy foods also have a significant benefit on cleaning a pets teeth and indeed specific diets such as Hills 'T/d' are available for this purpose.

Feeding Regime

The feeding regime is how much and how often our pets are fed. There is an established pattern to feed dogs and cats once daily, but there is little good reason to follow this and indeed twice daily feeding has many benefits. More regular salivation improves dental hygiene, smaller meals are easier to digest, and more frequent feeding reduces boredom and begging problems. Of significant importance in deep chested and large breed of dog is the prevention of gastric bloat and torsion which can be induced by large meals, particularly if followed by exercise. Gastric bloat and torsion is a life threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary intervention.

Bones and chews.

Vets will almost always advise that bones and often chews are avoided due to frequent problems when large fragments are swallowed. These can obstruct and even perforate the bowel. However, there are benefits with these, particularly to dental health, and some dogs can tolerate large bones very well. Chews such as Rasks, Royal Canin's Mini Oral Bar and CET chews are a much safer option.

Always consult your own veterinary surgeon before giving bones to a pet. Never give poultry bones, as these often produce sharp fragments when chewed.

Carbohydrates

All food has an energy value. Carbohydrates are essentially sugars and provide a rich source of energy. Simple sugars such as glucose and dextrose are readily available 'instant-energy'. Starches are readily digested into simple sugars and are derived from potatoes, rice, pasta and other common plant and cereal sources. Starches form a major constituent of many diets as they provide a ready energy source that is more sustained and filling than the simple sugars. Non- digestible carbohydrates form fibre and allow your pet to form a bulky faecal stool. Fibre is generally not broken down by simple stomached animals like dogs or cats, but allows digestion of the other nutrients and formation of a regular, firm, healthy stool. Insufficient dietary fibre can often result in diarrhoea and anal gland problems.

The requirement for carbohydrates is governed by the weight and activity of our pets. Active animals have a greater need, obese animals and often older animals have much less. Specific diets are formulated to meet these needs, such as Royal Canin's 'Obesity' and various geriatric diets. Animals with poor digestion can be helped by a higher fibre, slower digested diet such as Hills i/d. Diabetic animals also are unable to cope well with simple sugars and require a higher fibre food such as Royal Canin's Diabetic diet, or Hills r/d.

Protein

Protein provides animals with essential building blocks, the amino acids, which go to make up muscles but are present in almost all body tissues. Certain amino acids can be synthesised by the animal itself, others cannot and are termed 'essential amino acids'. These must be provided in the diet. Sources of protein are traditionally meat but alternatives are available and dogs can have a balanced meat-free diet. Cereals, chicken, fish and soya are common sources of protein.

The protein that our pets eat is largely digested in the bowel and absorbed as the constituent amino acids, which are then broken down and assimilated in the liver and other body tissues. The result is the correct balance of amino acids for the individuals needs, coupled with waste nitrogen products - many of which are excreted through the kidneys.

Kidney failure results in the nitrogen waste products failing to be excreted into the urine. Urea is measured in blood to evaluate kidney failure, which affects about 75% of older cats. These cats still have protein requirement to maintain tissue bulk, often high requirements, but it is essential that only the most readily utilized protein is provided through their diet. Diets such as hills k/d utilize specific ingredients to achieve the correctly balanced diet.

Growing dogs and active sporting dogs will also have greater requirement provided by life stage diets, available from many manufacturers.

Fat

It is essential that diets contain a small amount of fat. Fat provides a more concentrated but less available source of energy than the carbohydrates. This means that a high fat diet can increase obesity but a balanced diet containing fat will satisfy the appetite better than a low fat, high carbohydrate diet.

Essential fatty acids are so termed because like the fat soluble vitamins A, D, and E, they cannot be synthesised by the animal but are necessary for normal healthy skin, immune, hormone, and other body systems. Occasionally supplementation is necessary for dry skin conditions. Reputable products such as Efavet capsules and viacutan liquid have been specifically designed for use in dogs and cats. Evening Primrose oil has also been traditionally used as a supplement in many skin disorders If appetite is poor, flavour becomes important and it is fat that adds the flavour to many foods, especially meats. Warming food can also enhance flavour.

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) is a disease where the pancreas fails to secrete the enzymes amylase and lipase essential to digest dietry fat. The result is greasy, soft, often white faeces. The disease is especially common in German Shepherd Dogs but can be present in other breeds too. Reducing the fat levels in the diet can help but usually it is necessary to supplement each meal with the deficient enzymes. Products such as Pancrex, Lypex, or Panzym Powder are available for this purpose.

Vitamins And Minerals

Vitamins are essential nutrients without which many normal body functions are impossible. They are either water or fat soluble and must be be present to meet RDA (recommended daily allowance) in any balanced diet. It is not necessary or advisable to supplement a complete diet with vitamins without the advice of your veterinary surgeon.

Minerals are the raw elements which are required in varying quantities and are termed 'macro' or 'micro' minerals, dependant on the quantity necessary for life.

Macro-minerals include calcium, necessary for development of teeth and bones and present in the body in large quantities. Balanced supplements are available for specific situations such as late pregnancy and suckling young. Supplying individual minerals is not recommended, as each one affects others and unnecessary supplementation may upset a fine natural balance.

Micro-minerals such as copper or selenium are only required in very small amounts and again the correct balance is essential for tissue health and development, as well as normal immune and other functions. Supplementation of micro-minerals is only usually recommended under veterinary supervision.

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements such as SA37 for growth and during lactation can be considered, especially in large breeds, but often it is better to use an appropriate complete life stage diet.

Diarrhoea

There are many causes of diarrhoea; from dietary excess, indiscretion, intolerance and allergies to parasites such as worms or protozoa and infections. Many can be controlled by dietary changes alone, for others specific treatments are necessary. Historically Kaolin has been used as a binding agent but this is not well accepted by most cats or dogs. Now modern treatments that are far more palatable such as Canikur tablets and Canikur granules for cats or smaller dogs are available. Pro-Kolin paste for dogs and cats can be very effective. During recovery from many operations ailments and digestive upsets pro-biotic can be given to help restore the natural bacterial or yeasts present within the digestive tract, Protexin provides a range of products suitable for cats, dogs, rabbits and horses.

While it is generally acceptable to withdraw food for 12-48 hours for pets with diarrhoea adequate provision of fresh clean water must always be available. Whenever diarrhoea persists beyond 1 or 2 days dehydration can be a very serious concern and a proper evaluation should be made by your veterinarian.

Older Animals

Geriatric pets have altered nutritional needs. Often the appetite is reduced and activity can be less but at the same time it is important to ensure adequate mineral vitamin and protein provision to maintain often wasting muscle mass. In many cases specific diets to suit certain geriatric diseases are of paramount importance, and advise in these cases should always be sought from your veterinarian. When animals are old (cats and dogs typically over eight years of age) it may be enough just to adopt a lifestyle diet from one of the established manufacturers such as Hills, Iams, Royal Canin/ Walthon ( RCW ) or Purina.

Special Prescription Diets

Special Prescription Diets are so called because they are generally only provided through a veterinary surgeon. Examples include:-

Kidney diets commonly given to cats with chronic renal failure. These diets contain minimal salt, fat and protein, and the most digestable proteins and carbohydrates. The idea is to minimise the waste products of digestion which create many of the clinical signs of disease, whilst maintaining tissue mass to prevent wasting. Most commercial diets are based on chicken and rice, examples include Hills k/d and Royal Canin Renal diet.

Dental diets aim to maximise chewing and salivation while scaping the surface of the teeth and penetrating the gaps between the teeth. The principal of the diet is to provide the right shape and consistency of biscuit with minimal sugars and deposit. Examples include Hills t/d

Diabetic diets must provide a slowly digested and absorbed carbohydrate source to maintain level blood glucose concentration. This is generally achieved by providing high fibre with low fat and simple sugar levels. Examples include Hills i/d and Royal Canin Diabetic diets.

Sensitivity diets are provided for dogs with food allergies or intolerances. Generally common allergens such as wheat glutens are avoided, there is a high fibre inclusion, and protein and carbohydrate are provided from novel sources. There is a great variety of products available from chicken and rice based foods such as Hills i/d to capelin and tapioca diets and Royal Canins Sensitivity control . Atopy, or allergic skin disease, can also be supported by the use of many of these diets when a veterinarian has diagnosed food allergic dermatitis.

Obesity diets are well provided to contain the minimal calories with the maximum gut-fill. There is usually a very high fibre content, and many have biscuits expanded with air and designed scientifically to swell in the stomach giving a 'full' feeling. Examples include Hills r/d and Royal Canin Obesity.

What To Eat To Make My Voice Husky - Is There A Diet That Can Give You A Deep Husky Voice?

by: Sean Harrod

There are quite a few people how usually ask this question: what to eat to make my voice husky? Well if you have a high-pitched squeaky voice that you think is affecting the way you live your life, then you might want to change it. And while your diet may not have much to do, you can always perform some deep voice training techniques/exercises that will help you with this goal.

But since this article is on what you can EAT to make your voice husky and deep, I will start by giving your some few pointers on this. If you want a deep, gravelly voice, then you should make sure you always drink water. You should eat foods that build up mucus in your throat like milk or chocolate. Also eating a lot of beef can also help, since beef has testosterone which helps with voice quality too.

There is not so much food you can eat to make your voice deep or husky. Nonetheless there are effective deep voice training exercises you can use to transform your voice tone and make it really strong and raspy. Here are some of these exercises which you can try at home, but before you do them, I would advice that you always give it time to work. Deep voice training is not something you would see results over night so be patience and hopefully your voice tone will be good sooner or later.

1- To start with, a smooth, deep baritone voice can be achieved through humming. I should have said humming A LOT, if you really want these exercises to work.

2- One more deep voice exercise that you could do is to croak (not sing) a very low pitch for a moment or two and then to speak. Do this a couple of times and day and try to track your voice improvements

3- It has also been proven that the muscle-relaxant effect of a large amount of alcohol will deepen the voice. This is not a so advised deep voice training tip, but people do use it to get the voice tone and quality they want.

4- For getting a husky voice, you should also, on a regular basis, carry out neck exercises to strengthen your neck muscles.

So as said above, there is really no effective diet that can give you a deep husky voice, but with the few tips above, you will be able to lower your voice tone and get the quality you have always wanted. There are many more deep voice training tips which you should try out.

Do you want know some few, easy Voice Box and Vocal Cord Exercises you can do for only 3 to 5 minutes each day, that will completely transform your voice tone and make it deeper, stronger and very sexy? If yes, then I advise you download a copy of the Deep Voice Mastery Manual.

Click on this link: deep voice mastery program review, to read more about this natural voice deepening guide, and see how it has been helping 1000s of people round the world to naturally deepen their voice.

Tips On How To Reduce Stuttering (ex-stutterer shares own experience)

by: Lilia Parker

Hello everybody! I myself know how frustrating stuttering can be. Thanks to God, I never stuttered in my formative school years. My stuttering started only after 17, very lightly, and it was purely stress related. That time just two visits to a hypnotherapies helped ... for about 4 years. Then, at 21 I faced the remission, it happened after a tragedy in my life at that period of time. For almost a month stuttering was not just unbearable - I wasn't able to talk at all. I had to communicate via writing on paper even to my mom. Being shocked by this sudden speech disorder, in despair, I tried whatever was available: healers, speech therapists, medications. All these stutter- treatments reduced my stuttering, gradually to almost zero.

So, I was able to come back to my normal life, as at that stage stuttering was hardly noticeable... Then, after few years another remission took place on account of a very stressful marriage life. It became worse month by month. Then, after about 7 years I got divorced and I am now married again.

Even though stresses and relevant factors that are meant to increase stutter are no more, the stuttering has persisted. It showed no sign of disappearing, or even improvement. No matter what I tried..........

After much research on the internet I came across different methodic. I also found some anti-stuttering gadgets but didn't purchase any as they were too costly and I wasn't sure whether it was worthwhile to spend such an amount of money.

I therefore continued my search until I came across a Russian website also with an anti-stuttering gadget, similar functions but very reasonably priced. The price is very low since it is directly from the inventor and distributor. In anticipation I emailed him asking for more details etc. Then pretty soon, I was convinced enough to go ahead with the purchase, and I have never regretted it! This anti-stuttering gadget really helps - from the very first minute! Obviously it is not like a magic wand that cures immediately but, what is very important - it gave me confidence and so yearned-for control over my speech. Moreover it even helped to develop an expressive speech. Though certainly, like everything else, it needs time for total elimination. With the help of this device I slowly felt like a totally different person - a person who was not afraid to answer, to pick up a telephone receiver, even to initiate a conversation. It gives me real confidence! Due to the special slow and loud function, I can even feel proud of myself when I hear my own voice. I feel that everything is 'in my hands' and my responsibility.

As I've been explained by the inventor, he developed this anti-stuttering gadget for one of his family members, who is especially very dear to him. Then, in less than two years he was encouraged to introduce his invention to the public. Now the great healing effect of his anti-stuttering gadget has been medically proven and he has even begun an international project.

The speech-improving device Stutter Stop will help you to achieve your stuttering freedom and to develop beautiful impressive speech. Run by ex- stutterers. Real stuttering solution for people who stutter.

I also would like to share some tips on how to reduce stuttering. It will assist you to gain social skills & conversational ability!

1. Sing the words! Try to speak in a singing way or, at least, speak slowly!

2. Visualise! Try to visualise the letters of the word (one by one) you are going to say.

3. Speak on 'breathing out'!

4. Say 'letter' by 'letter'. The beginning of the words 'the words you feel you are going to get stuck with' try to say 'letter by letter' i.e. instead of saying the complete word "thanks" say 'th' 'a' 'nks'.

5. Try to chew something while speaking (sweets, gum etc.).

6. Whisper. Usually while whispering stutter is not so noticable.

7. Speak very LOUD. When shouting on "breathing out" stutter disappears.

8. Say a silent prayer (or any special formula for self-confidence) before you talk.

9. Everyday repeat many times every morning and every evening a phrase about your fluent speech (e.g. my speech is fluent and impressive. Everyday and everywhere I get better, better and better. I feel fantastic.

I would be glad to correspond with those who still have or had a stuttering problem - for feedback, tips, other ideas, etc.

Let's take a look at what you should do with your workouts first and what kind of exercises will help you lose belly fat fast and burn more belly fat than any other exercises.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Tip #1 - Do Interval Training - Not Cardio

Cardio is an aerobic exercise that you do for hours at slow - moderate pace with an intensity level where you can still talk. It does burn fat but only during the exercise bout. Once you stop, the fat-burning effect stops.

Yes, you'll definitely lose belly fat with cardio, but where do you get so many hours to spare for cardio exercises? Also, after shedding some pounds you'll hit a plateau. Thereafter, no matter how long you do, you'll just keep to that weight and size - no more, no less.

Interval training is what you should go with. Not only it'll lose more belly fat than cardio, but it takes only 30 - 45 minutes a day, 3 times a week to achieve better result at faster rate.

Here's what you'll do in interval training - you'll do an 8 / 10 intensity exercise on a hard pace for about 30 seconds followed by an "active rest" of 3 / 10 intensity exercise for 60 seconds and then repeat for 3 intervals. How long are you taking?

Only 4.5 minutes, plus a 3-minute must-do exercise each for warm-up and cool-down, you spend only less than 11 minutes in total for the day. And you're done. The fat-burning effect will last longer than when you're doing cardio for 1 - 2 hours (even cardio trainers agree with that).

Nothing beats interval training when it comes to losing belly fat. It's particularly more effective for vegetarians since vegetarians bear a superior overall body constitution for efficient fat-burning response.

But as you just saw, interval training involves short burst high-intensity workout routine, so you must get a certified personal trainer to guide you along to avoid any potential injuries.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Tip #2 - Bodyweight Vs Dumbbell Exercises

Who says doing light dumbbell exercises with more repetitions will burn more fat fast?

If you want to boost your metabolism for maximum fat loss, you should do bodyweight exercises instead, such as pushups (or kneeling pushups if you're just getting started and have not built the strength to perform standard pushup yet), total body ab exercises, and leg sculpting moves.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Tip #3 - Crunches Can't Lose Belly Fat

Total body ab exercises work much more efficient than crunches.

You can use mountain climbers, spiderman climbs, side planks, cross-body mountain climbers etc. These will make a stronger impact and produce faster 6-pack ab results with less time (each exercise will probably take you only 20 seconds to 1 minute).

Tip for Muscle Toning - Most women fear to bulk up their muscles, so they heed the wrong advice and start using light weight to do more reps (thus, wasting more precious hours). The truth is, you can use the slightly heavier dumbbell (based on your strength) to firm up your muscle without bulking up. The trick lies in doing fewer repetitions. You save more time but get even firmer result.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Tip #4 - the Effective Weight Loss Diet Plan for Vegetarians

Interval training is effective in burning belly fat, but without a proper vegetarian weight loss diet plan, your workout will only yield minimal result. Here's what you should do with your weight loss diet to maximize belly fat loss.

Try to prepare every weight loss meal yourself so you can control the quality and know exactly what you're eating. Go with raw vegetarian diet for best result. Not used to full raw? Half raw with minimal cooking and sauteing work fine too. Search online for an effective vegetarian weight loss diet plan if you need help in getting one.

Increase the number of meals to 5 or 6 but in smaller portions, which include light snacks such as whole grain crackers or small bowl of oatmeal to give your metabolism a boost, so that your body will continue to burn fat throughout the day. But bear in mind, in your main meals (i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner), fill your stomach to only 70% full. Snacks should only give you a 30 - 40% satiety level.

Follow The GI Diet Without Calorie Counting

by: Andrew Mason

Do you think that it would be too much to expect somebody to come up with a "perfect" diet, something that could help each and every one of us that suffers through problems associated with weight loss? Would it be too much of a pipe dream to expect such a solution to come along? It seems that this is unfortunately just the way that it must be. After all, each one of us has a very different makeup and how could it be possible to come up with a commercially available diet across the board? A diet needs to be based on a variety of different factors and we need to look at our lifestyles, our genetic makeup, and our individual likes and dislikes too.

We base a decision to go on a diet for a number of different reasons. Most of the time these reasons are related to our health, but sometimes we come across a dietary plan that seems to cover a number of very important issues in one special system. The glycemic index diet is just such a plan.

What is the glycemic index? It's effectively a ranking factor categorizing each and every carbohydrate according to its effect on our body. When we digest foods, blood glucose is released into our system and scientists have calculated the effect that a 50 g portion of each different carbohydrate has, as it is processed. Pure glucose is allocated a factor of 100 and every other carbohydrate is placed between zero and this figure. We know that we need to steer clear of foods that are at the top of the index, as our blood sugar levels will be more adversely affected. This is known as the glycemic response and we need to factor into effect the portion size, whether the food is processed or not and how we actually prepare it for consumption.

The glycemic index diet is so important in society these days as it is known to help people who suffer from diabetes to regulate their blood sugar levels. Furthermore, it is also known to help people regulate their weight. Foods that are at the bottom of the index are great at regulating blood glucose levels, keeping our sugar levels in harmony and helping us to avoid those jittery peaks and troughs. No more cravings, hunger pangs and trips to the vending machine!

Most diets that are focused on the glycemic index are very rich in vegetables and fruits and emphasize the fact that we should eat these foods in as natural a state as possible to get the most nutrients and benefits. Count your portion size, though, as it is the glycemic load rather than simply the index that has the ultimate effect. The glycemic load is designed to help us identify how important a portion size is in the mix.

You will want to avoid foods such as white rice, baked potatoes and other heavy starches as these will push your sugar levels up too quickly. When this happens, fats are created and stored, which will certainly affect your weight regulation and you will have an elevated risk of developing diabetes. If you add lean protein with the correct amount of fat to a diet based on the low glycemic count you should be 'off to the races'. Always exercise and be active as well, though. The main thing to remember is that you have to focus on the quality of the carbohydrate and make sure that you regulate its quantity, on a daily basis.

Andrew Mason runs a popular weight loss website using the principles of the glycemic index. He also offers a free minicourse for those tired of dieting and want a simple and healthy way of eating. Diet Plans And Menus - The Genotype Diet

by: Levi Reiss

The Genotype Diet was created by Peter J. d'Adamo. It centers on the interaction between genes and the environment. According to d'Adamo food may be used to change your genes' behavior. He classifies people into six genotypes: hunters, gatherers, teachers, explorers, warriors, and nomads. The hunter's diet is carnivorous and low in lectins and glutens. The gatherer's diet is low in glucides. It is protein-rich. The teacher's diet is rich in phytonutrients. The explorer's diet is quite varied. The warrior's diet is rich in glucides and phytonutrients, and the nomad's diet is omnivorous but low in lectins and glutens. Here are some of the principles.

The first thing to do is determine your genotype. Doing so requires two fairly easy calculations that depend on the relative size of your bust and your legs, as well as that of your index finger and your ring finger. The rules are too complicated and too long to restate here. After you have determined your genotype access the appropriate lists of recommended foods, foods to avoid, and portion size. As previously, these lists are long. Under the advice of your doctor take supplements. Practice sports, the most appropriate sports depend on your genotype.

An advantage of the Genotype Diet is that it allows all food groups. It relies on good dietary habits over the long run rather than presenting short-term restrictions. One disadvantage is the total lack of scientific evidence to support it. This disadvantage is definitely not unique to the Genotype Diet.

Here are two sample menus:

Menu 1 (Hunter)

Breakfast: Two slices of whole grain bread. Pineapple jam. Pear and mango salad.

Lunch: Endive salad. 150 grams (about 5 ounces) of sardines. Green beans. Pineapple slices.

Supper: 150 grams of sauteed beef and peppers. Sweet potatoes. Cranberries.

Menu 2 (Teacher)

Breakfast: Mushroom omelet. A slice of linseed bread. Pineapple slices.

Lunch: Broccoli soup. An avocado. Pinto beans. Curried quinoa. A nectarine.

Supper: Pumpkin soup. 170 grams of cod. Leek fondue. A slice of linseed bread. 100 grams of muenster cheese.

Some information in this article comes from a fascinating new book, La Bible des Regimes, written by Jenny de Jonquieres and published by Amerik Media. Her book describes over 80 diets and weight reduction programs. Each diet is presented with 5 menu plans, a detailed discussion of its advantages and disadvantages, and lots more. La Bible des Regimes is presently available in French only.

Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet but he would rather just drink fine Italian or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. He teaches various computer classes in an Ontario French-language community college. Check out his wine website http://www.theworldwidewine.com with a weekly column reviewing $10 wines and new sections writing about (theory) and tasting (practice) organic and kosher wines.

7 Vegetarian Weight Loss Foods Your Vegetarian Weight Loss Diet Should Contain

by: Laura Ng

What weight loss foods should you include in your vegetarian weight loss diet for maximum fat loss? Of all vegetarian weight loss foods, vegetables help you lose weight most effectively, particularly these 7 super vegetables:

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #1 - Kelp

How does kelp help you lose weight? Besides being low in cholesterol, kelp provides your body with good amount of dietary fiber, vitamin C, pantothenic acid, calcium and minerals such as iodine.

Iodine in kelp keeps your thyroid function properly. It stimulates a hormone produced by the thyroid gland that's responsible for boosting metabolism, so you'll burn more fat. If your weight gain is related to thyroid disorder, kelp can help you lose weight. It has also been shown to lower the blood cholesterol levels.

However, seek your doctor's advice before loading on kelp as too much iodine can have a negative effect on your thyroid. Adding kelp moderately in your vegetarian weight loss diet is the key to lose weight optimally with kelp.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #2 - Celery

An 8-inch stalk of celery contains approximately 6 calories. But the mere act of digesting this stalk burns more than 6 calories, resulting in a negative calorie count. In other words, you'll use up more calories from your energy reserve (fat storage) to break down celery, achieving fat loss.

Not only that, celery provides a good source of vitamin C and fiber (as in kelp), and fiber is one key ingredient to help you detox and lose weight more effectively. It contains unique oil that helps to relax your muscles, which improves blood flow and regulates blood pressure. It's especially good for you if you're having hypertension.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #3 - Spinach

Spinach carries lots of fiber which helps you stay full longer and reduce the overall number of calories that you consume each day. You can also benefit from its rich content of vitamin K and calcium which help to prevent or treat osteoporosis and the loss of bone density.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #4 - Cucumber

Cucumber contains sterols which can help to lower cholesterol and prevent carbohydrates from converting to body fat. Filling yet low in calories, it's a great choice in salads. It also helps you digest better and bears a cleansing effect on your bowel. With normal bowel function, you'll lose weight efficiently with less effort.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #5 - Radish

As radish is rich in vitamin C but low in calories, fat and stimulates metabolism, it's popular as a weight loss snack. However, eating too much radishes is very cooling for your body, especially if you already bear a "cool" body constitution, defined in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) terms.

This means that your immunity to cold and cough could be affected, especially during winter. Thus, eat them in moderation.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #6 - Bean Sprouts

These refer to sprouting from mung beans, alfalfa, lentils, chickpeas and soya beans. Sprouting actually helps to turn the starches, oils and other nutrients in beans to vitamins, enzymes and other forms of proteins, minerals and sugars.

A single helping of fresh sprouted mung beans contains about three quarter of the daily requirement of vitamin C. Sprouting increases the presence of vitamin B in beans, including thiamin, folate, B6 and biotin and produces less intestinal wind when consumed.

How do these vitamins in bean sprouts help you lose weight? They'll nourish your body and keep your body metabolically active. When your metabolism runs at full tank, you'll burn fat and lose weight. Simple logic. Oh, you can buy them at cheap prices too. A cheap weight loss food to add into your vegetarian weight loss diet indeed.

Vegetarian Weight Loss Food #7 - Broccoli

Most vegetables carry lots of fiber that helps you feel full and satisfied easily and sustain your activity over longer period of time, but I highly recommend broccoli here due to its high nutritional value - rich in vitamin C and carotenoids, and also contains protein, all-important B vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, chromium and calcium etc.

You'll lose weight with broccoli when it stops you from eating more food, but you'll also gain health with its antioxidant properties and anti-carcinogenic (cancer-fighting) power. Hence, broccoli is a must-add ingredient in your vegetarian weight loss diet.

No doubt these 7 vegetables can help you lose weight effectively as a vegetarian, you should also include other varieties of plant-based foods to achieve both effective weight loss and excellent health.

Fast Diet Fraud

by: Donald Miller

Under the theory that "seeing is believing", people continue to buy books and pills for dramatic weight loss in 7 days, or 4 weeks, or some other rather short interval. What should be checked is how much weight loss remains effective in one year.

There are several reasons for this caution.

Recognize that the ability to store calories as fat is pro survival, when the food supply various a lot throughout a year. With steady food supplies, this is anti survival. Eat more calories than you need, of whatever type, and you will put on fat. Even excess protein consumption is stored as fat. Note that high meat diets are high in saturated fat as well as protein.

Most people who try to lose weight do not make permanent changes to life style. They can lose a few pounds in the short term, but not keep them off.

Many fast diet schemes are tricks, some even dangerous. Especially bad are those plans which emphasize weight loss, but ignore what component of weight is lost.

WATER LOSS: many plans show quick results because they cause the body to drop water. The medical term for such pills is diuretics. Weight-wrap clothing makes one hot, and sweat. The same is achieved with steam rooms, saunas, and the like. Any professional athlete knows that a typical workout can cause the loss of 1 to 10 pounds of water, or more, which must be replaced to prevent heat stroke, even death.

MUSCLE LOSS: Many plans concentrate on reducing the total calories consumed, which is great if done wisely. The dangerous plans are those that starve the body so that muscle, as well as fat, is lost. As most dieters return to pre diet food practices, the lost muscle is usually replaced with fatty tissues. Muscle mass consumes calories even when the body is at rest. Reducing muscle mass merely to lose weight means that body is less balanced for controlling weight.

LOSS OF INJESTED FOOD: bowel stimulants are okay if needed for constipation, or to aid regularity, but NOT for weight loss. If you aren't eating much raw fruits and vegetables, moderate doses of dietary fiber supplements are okay.

FAT OR STARCH BLOCKERS: Two criteria must be met; they must work, and be safe to the metabolism. None are known to exist. I wrote elsewhere about chitosan, a "fat magnet" that does not work.

APPETITE KILLERS: They exist, but many have been removed from the marketplace. Narcotics are one such drug group.

FEN-FEN or FEN-PHEN, fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine, an anorexic drug, was banned by the FDA in 1997, mainly due to heart valve damage.

An alternative is to hold something nauseating under nose or tongue.

FAT BURNER STIMULANTS: "Fat burners" are a fictitious part of the body. Pills to turn them up have nothing to work on.

METABOLISM ACCELERATORS: Amphetamines rev up the body, and formerly were in wide use by dieters and by students who were cramming for tests, as well as speed freaks. Tolerance requires increasing doses. High doses cause sleeplessness, nervousness and euphoria, and can cause death. Usage can be followed by intense mental depression and fatigue. DON'T!

Late 2003, a class of weight loss pills was taken off the market, due to deaths of athletes and dieters; Ephedra, also called Ma huang, and synthesized ephedrine. Ephedrine alkaloids are amphetamine-like compounds, used in some prescription medications, and found in some herbal teas. The side effects include increase of blood pressure and pulse rate, nerve damage, muscle injury, psychosis, stroke, impaired memory, nervousness, tremors, seizures, heart attacks, strokes. Who needs it?

READ THE LABELS. Many weight loss products contain a lot of sugar, fructose, maltodextrin, thus sugar, sugar, modified corn starch. These are lousy choices for good nutrition, and can bounce blood sugar levels dangerously high, after which they can crash to dangerously low (hypoglycemia). Ingesting too much refined sugar can induce diabetes.

Thus, many "nutritional diet products" are nutritional only if compared to high fat and high salt foods.

FAT RESTRICTION: This should be a permanent part of a healthful food plan for anyone who is not very active physically. Prior to modern mechanization, everyone but the pampered ruling classes used a lot of calories all the time. This is why so many traditional / ethnic foods are high in fat, such as bacon and sausage, pastries, fried foods. What was good for great grand parents can be bad for us.

Here's a cruel truth. A little bit of fat is far more effective than high protein or sugar foods at satisfying hunger. The trick is to avoid saturated fats and trans fats (hydrogenated oils).

Smart dieters can get unsaturated fats from plant foods, such as nuts and seeds. Outdoors enthusiasts are mostly familiar with "trail foods", such as "GORP" = Good Old Raisins and Peanuts. I find that almonds and raisins chewed together are very sweet and hunger killing, so not a risk to weight control.

YOUR BEST DEFENSE against fraud of any kind is self education. Don't be afraid to question what any source says, but consult several sources that have no mission to sell you anything. Government publications and Mayo Clinic advice are good examples which can be reached on the internet.

If you have very little money to spend on healthy foods because of the price, then you will find this advice to be just what you need for eating healthy with little money.

Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is. Being food smart isn't about learning to calculate grams or fat, or is it about studying labels and counting calories.

Stop eating Processed junk food and do your grocery shopping on your own, because your children and sometimes your spouse are usually the ones requesting Processed junk food. Shopping alone will ensure that you only buy the foods that you need.

Drink pure Filtered Water and unsweating herb tea instead of coffee, milk, juice and soft drinks. If you need milk or milk products on a daily basis for your Children, then buy organic milk or milk products with 2% or less fat,low suger and salt.

Buy fruits in quantity,When they are in season, buy fruits in quantity and freeze any extras. You can buy several pounds

this way,and freeze extras to have them when the fruit goes out of season. Wash the fruit well, remove any spoiled pieces, dry thoroughly, then freeze in plastic zipper bags.

Lean Meats and beans are a good sources for protein, but lean meat is more expensive than meats with a lot of fat,so limit your meats to once or twice a month. All beans are a healther chose for protein then meats, as they give you protein at a great price.

You should use beans as a substitute for meat on a frequent occasion. There are several varieties,so you can prepare them in a crock pot, when you return home they are ready to consume.

The USDA recommends eating beans at least 4 times per week. If you experience gas after eating beans you should try washing them, covering them with water and put half a raw potato into the pot of beans, bringing the water to a boil, then draining it off and remove the cooked potato, leaving the pot with just beans.

If you live in a coastal area or an area where fish are around, make that an integral part of your diet. You can catch them from the lakes or rivers, saving money in the process.

Peanut butter is great for those with low income,as it's popular with almost everyone. You can use it for sandwiches instead of eating hot dogs. Read the label on the jar as sum Peanut butter jars need to be frigerated and sum does not, although bigger jars can last you for weeks or months.

You should buy foods that have a high content of water. Watermelon, salads, and even sugar free gelatin are all great examples.

Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day. Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.

Fighting The Big Fight Against Celiac Disease - It Could Take A Lifetime If Only You recognize How

Fighting celiac disease could take a lifetime as it is an intestinal disorder with no known medicine yet for a person to take if he is suffering from this problem. The disease is triggered by the ingestion of gluten that causes a reaction in one's small intestines, disabling it from absorbing the nutrients from food, and resulting in vitamin, mineral, and nutritional deficiencies. Malnutrition of the person afflicted is a consequence followed later by other diseases since a malnourished body is vulnerable to diseases. Some people find it difficult to control the problem, but if it is just a matter of changing dietary habits, why should it really be a problem?

Gluten is a protein present in all forms of wheat, rye and barley and people afflicted with celiac disease gets the malady because of this kind of food. This diet could be unbalanced really if no other kinds of food are taken. An unbalanced diet will not be good for any person' health and well being at all. Nutritionists always say that a balanced diet is necessary for one to be able to maintain good health. People eating the wrong food could have medical problems sooner or later.

Symptoms in children with celiac disease may include growth failure, vomiting, bloated abdomen, and behavioral changes. Adults on the other hand can experience recurring bloating or gas, chronic diarrhea or constipation, unexplained weight loss or gain, vitamin K deficiency, and fatigue, among many other inconveniences the disease may cause.

Fighting celiac disease, like any other disease, starts with the correct diagnosis of the problem. It is however difficult to diagnose celiac disease as its symptoms may be similar to the symptoms of other maladies. What is known now however in medical science is that a person given a new diet which is gluten free gets relieved from the celiac problem. No medicine is used for the treatment - just having a new diet for the patient is enough.

Celiac disease support groups now (celiac disease sufferers and their families) can help a celiac disease victim not with medicines but more with advice on what food a patient should take so he will not have gluten anymore in his diet. This is after all the only known remedy so far to relieve one of the symptoms of the celiac malady.

If the problem is resolved with a gluten free diet, then it just shows that the person afflicted may have been eating an unbalanced diet through the years.

Maybe when a person gets hit with celiac disease it is just a reminder for him to look into his diet, which may have been the culprit that brought about the problem. It should not be too difficult for him to adjust to a new dietary regimen, if only to stay away from the discomforts of celiac disease.
